About certification of international Ekaterinburg Airport (Koltsovo)

      On 10 June 10, 2009 the Interstate Aviation Committee issued a Certificate to the International Ekaterinburg Airport (Koltsovo) for performing international operations of aircraft in adverse weather of ICAO I category at RWY № 1.
      Recunstruction of the runway launched in 2008 was held within the framework of the Federal targeted programme "Modernization of the Russian Transportation System" and was a part of comprehensive programme of Koltsovo Airport modernization including the building of new terminals of international and domestic airlines, new air traffic control center, airport ground structure facilities. 
      Huge work on designing, building, mounting and adjusting the equipmentat the level of the most modern requirements was done by the State customer of FSUE "Administration of Civil Airports (airfields)”, general contractor of "AerodromDomStroy" CJSC, general planner of "Science and Technology and Design Institute of Transport Infrastructure" and many other participants of this project was done.  
       After reconstruction the length of RWY № 1 increased up to 3004 meters and according to its parameters it is able to accomodate almost all types of modern aircraft.  
      The RWY is equipped with the most modern radiotechnical equipment which in addition to foreign equipment (lighting facilities O.C.E.M Sp.A  manufactured in Italy) includes the latest domestic equipment of СП-200 landing system manufactured in Chelyabinsk radio plant. 
      Putting into operation of the new RWY jointly with the air traffic control center will significantly improve aircraft safety and flight regularity and will place Koltsovo Airport in line with the largest modern air transportation centers (hubs) which form the basis for major aerodrome network of Russia. 
      Undoubtedly, after airport reconstruction the number of national and foreign airlines, which will have desire to use Koltsovo Airport, will increase. 
      During certification at Koltsovo Airport the IAC specialists carried out considerable and detailed work on checking the compliance the compliance of radiotechnical, lighting, meteorological, emergency and safety equipment and airports' electricity power supply systems. 
The assessment of aerodrome environs eveness, condition and bearing capacity of unprepared fields, obstales impact at aerodrome environs was made. 
       Based on the positive results of activities on assessing aerodrome operation suitability the Interstate Aviation Committee took decision to issue Certificate to Koltsovo Airport for ICAO category I operations at RWY № 1.
