About participation in ICAO Regional Seminar on Aviaiton Cybersecurity

Specialists of the Interstate Aviation Committee took part in the ICAO Regional Seminar on Aviation Cybersecurity supported by the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia.

The Seminar was attended by 90 experts from the States of the ICAO European and North-Atlantic region, as well as various international organizations including International Air Transport Association (IATA), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), and others. 

The Seminar was opened by Elkhan Nahmadov, Deputy Regional Director of the ICAO European and North-Atlantic Office and Mirjana Cizmarov, Direcor General of the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia. In their welcoming speech it was highlighted that digital transformation carries with it new serious security challenges requiring a strategic approach and international cooperation. 

The participants discussed ICAO cybersecurity Standards and Recommended Practices, national, regional and global aspects of cyber threats, oversight mechanisms and experience of regulatory authorities and industry, legal instruments supporting protection and resilience of civil aviation to cyber threats and risks. Current and planned initiatives, problems and aviation cyber security capabilities were also discussed. In addition, the participants shared their experiences in developing and implementing national cyber surveillance mechanisms.  

The Seminar included practical session simulating international cyber incident and specially designed for airports, airlines, Civil Aviation Authorities and Air Navigation Service Providers. The practial session placed particular emphasis on cross-sectoral and international cooperation, and as well as strengthening of operational understanding of cybersecurity issues, including those covering operational, technical and legal aspects of responding to a cyber threat.  

The seminar was closed by the Advisor to the Director General of the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia, Zlatko Miscevic, who emphasized that the Directorate actively monitors and implements the latest international standards and practices in the field of cybersecurity in order to effectively respond to all challenges and ensure the sustainability of the aviation industry.

On the sidelines of the event, the IAC delegation held a number of meetings with representatives of states and international organizations, during which they shared experiences in addressing cybersecurity issues.
