On September 24, 2009 the Interstate Aviaiton Committee Chairperson T. G. Anodina congratulated direction and all the staff of Sheremetyevo International Airport on the 50th anniversary.
Sheremetyevo Airport construction was initiated in 1953 and in August 1959 Tu-104 airliner performed landing.
For 50 years Sheremetyevo Airport has become unrecognizable. From February 11, 1964 Sheremetyevo Airport has become International. New modern passenger terminals, second runway were built, which increased its capacity and improved the quality of passenger service, enhanced the comfort of passenger at the Airport.
Sheremetyevo Airport is equipped at the level of the most modern requirements and was the first in Russia to be certified for aircraft flight operations in adverse meteorological conditions of ICAO III-A category. At this ICAO category practical flight independence from adverse weather conditions is achieved and flight continuity at visual range up to 200 m and low, before getting to zero, cloud ceiling is provided.
In the course of certification at Sheremetyevo Airport the IAC experts carried out much painstaking work to verify the compliance of airport facilities power supply systems with requirements of radiotechnical. lighting, meteorological and emergency and safety equipment. The assessment of condition and bearing capacity of unprepared fields, obstacles impact at environs was carried out.
The airfield is capable to receive all types of aircraft including the largest one for today A-380.
In 2008 the scheduled direct railed communication Moscow-Sheremetyevo was opened that allowed passengers to get to the airport just in 35 minutes.
Currently, Sheremetyevo Airport is one of the largest international airports. The largest international airlines have been successfuly and fruitfully cooperating with the Airport for a long time. In 2008 more that 15 million passengers used the Airport's services.
Sheremetyevo Airport continues to develop. One of the strategic goals of Sheremetyevo Airport is to become by 2015 the best hub airport in Europe in terms of passenger service quality and increase traffic volume up to 35 million people. The construction of the third RWY, new passenger and cargo terminals is being planned. It is planned to build International business center with exhibition halls, restaurants and all service infrastructure at the landside.
Interstate Aviation Committee Chairperson emphasized the great contribution of the airport staff to the development and improvement of international air transportations and presented valuable gifts to the most distinguished airport employees.
