About participation of the IAC delegation in opening of a new International Ashkhabad airport

The IAC delegation at the invitation of the Government of Turkmenistan participated in opening of a new International Ashkhabad airport on September 17.  

The airport opening celebrations were held with participation of the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow and numerous guests from around the world - ambassadors, politicians, public figures, heads of international aviation organisations, representatives of large global companies operating in the sphere of aviation, transport and tourism.

An open-plan complex is the largest in Central Asia and one of the most advanced in the world in terms of level of technological development, occupies the area of almost 1200 hectares and comprises more than 100 facilities including main and second passenger terminals, cargo terminal, aircraft maintenance hangar complex, training and medical centers and plenty of other facilities.

The area of 5-storey building of the main terminal with a capacity of 14 million passengers per year is over 190 thousand square meters. It is expected to pass up to 200 tons of cargo through modern and highly-automated cargo terminals. The airport has two runways of 3 800 meters. ATC service is equipped with modern navigation equipment. The airport can accommodate aircraft of any type and load-lifting capacity including Airbus A380 и Boeing 747-8 providing an international level service. 

During the opening ceremony the airport received certificates and Guinness Book of World Records awards, «Construction Excellence Award» from «International Property & Travel» company, «International Star Award for Quality» from «Business Initiative Directions», «World Airport Awards» from «Skytrax» company, Minich Airport and others. 

The Interstate Aviation Committee expresses its sincere congratulations to the esteemed President Gybarngyly Berdimuhammedow, the Government of Turkmenistan, all Turkmen people on this significant event. Opening of the new airport which has become one of the most beautiful and modern complexes in the world is the important step towards implementation of the idea of making Turkmenistan a large transport and logistics center of Eurasian continent which is expected to create new opportunities for realization of the country's large economic potential with its richest natural resources, favorable geographic location and efficient domestic and foreign policies.
