About the workshop "Aviation linguist-investigator: introduction to specialization"

On March 13-15, 2024 the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) jointly with the the International Consultancy and Analysis Agency "Aviation Safety" held International workshop "Aviation linguist-investigator: introduction to specialization".

An event of this kind was organized for the first time in practice of our region (and, possibly, in the world), and its purpose was to familiarize aviation specialists with rules and procedures of accident and incident investigation, with new ICAO language proficiency requirements, and with the problems of using English language during communication, etc.

The workshop was attended by 150 specialists from six States-parties to the Agreement - the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as a participant from India. The workshop was attended by representatives of 10 airlines, aviation training centers, ATM authorities, leading universities, specialists from flight schools, as well as experts from ICAO and IATA.

During the workshop, various topics related to insufficient knowledge of aviation English by aviation specialists as a danger factor, and the features of the analysis of this factor in accident and incident investigation were discussed.

Special attention was given to practical exercises, during which the speakers covered in detail examples of real recordings of radio communication and their linguistic analysis.

The workshop is an important event for aviation linguists and flight safety specialists. It allowed participants to exchange experience and knowledge, work in groups through practical exercises, and discuss current issues related to the aviation accident and incident investigation. Events of this level contribute to enhancing flight safety in civil aviation.
