The IAC held a discussion on aviation meteorology issues

On December 11-12, 2024, a round table on aviation meteorology was held at the Interstate Aviation Committee.

The round table was attended by 97 specialists from 9 States parties to the Agreement on Civil Aviation and Use of Airspace, the event was held in a hybrid format: face-to-face and video. Among the participants were representatives of dispatching and flight crews, meteorological specialists, teachers of aviation universities and developers of meteorological equipment.

A wide range of issues of meteorological support for international air navigation was considered. During the discussion, the participants noted that the issues of meteorological support for civil aviation are an integral part of the concept of safe use of airspace. Modern trends in digital information exchange, technical re-equipment of meteorological departments, the implementation of Internet technologies in the everyday practice, the implementation of the qualification standard and the assessment of the competence of aviation meteorological personnel, the development and improvement of the quality management system are the most important tasks solved by the States parties to the Agreement in the field of meteorological support for international air navigation.

Particular emphasis was given to the compliance of the regulatory framework for the activities of the aviation meteorological services of the States parties to the Agreement with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Metrological Organization (WMO).

The participants heard the reports on upgrading the technical equipment of meteorological units in accordance with modern trends.

All participants noted the high interest of concerned authorities in the issues of the round table. An agreed decision was made to hold a regular meeting of the IAC Coordination Commission on Air Navigation and the Working Group on Meteorological Support for Civil Aviation Flights in the second quarter of 2025.
