IAC has prepared a report on flight safety level in civil aviation for 2024

The Interstate Aviation Committee publishes a Report on flight safety level in civil aviation of the States parties to the Agreement on Civil Aviation and Use of Airspace in 2024.

The report includes statistical data on accident rate in the past year and for a five-year period with distribution by aircraft classification and types of aviation work and transportation, their analysis, as well as information on specific aviation incidents that occurred in 2024.

For the first time, the report includes information on the investigation of aviation incidents with unmanned aerial vehicles. Currently, the IAC continues to investigate two air incidents with helicopter-type unmanned aerial vehicles.

An important section of the report is the "Recommendations to Aviation Authorities". The recommendations must be brought to the attention of all concerned bodies of states and organizations pergorming activities in the field of flight safety and civil aircraft operation.

"In 2024, the overall flight safety level in civil aviation of the States Parties to the Agreement, after improving in previous years, returned to its average statistical values. The absolute indicators for 2024 are in the range of indicators for the five-year period of 2020 - 2024. According to our estimates, about 75% of events over the past year are related to the human factor. Given this factor, we recommend that states develop targeted comprehensive programs on all aspects of the impact of the human factor on flight safety. In addition, more attention should be paid to the qualifications of flight personnel and the systematic improvement of their training level,” emphasizes IAC Chairman Oleg Storchevoy.

Let us recall that in 2024, the IAC was conducting 74 investigations, of which 39 were completed. Despite the increase in the number of air accidents and investigations initiated in 2024, for the second year in a row, the IAC has managed to reduce the percentage of uncompleted investigations due to the measures taken to improve work efficiency.

This year, the Interstate Aviation Committee systematically and purposefully continues its work aimed at improving the level of safe air transport operation.
